Egypt condemns terrorist attack on football pitch in Iraq
Cairo (IraqiNews.com) – Egypt has strongly condemned a terrorist attack that targeted a football pitch in the Dakuk district of Kirkuk in northern Iraq on Sunday.
The attack left six civilians dead and nine more injured.
Egypt expresses condolences to the families of the dead and wishes the injured a speedy recovery, Egypt’s Ahram Online quoted the foreign ministry as saying in a press statement.
The statement voiced support for the Iraqi government and people in the fight against terrorism, extremism and violence.
Earlier in the day, the Iraqi military announced that the Islamic State group fired RPG rockets and medium-range weapons at a pitch in Dakuk district, south of Kirkuk.
Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
