Baghdad (IraqiNews.ocm) A Saudi-led Arab military coalition against Yemen’s Houthi rebels said Sunday the group had made a failed attempt to launch a ballistic missile towards the kingdom.

Saudi media quoted the coalition’s spokesperson saying that a missile launched by the Houthis from the capital, Sanaa, which is under their control since 2014, landed in Saada, a province on the borders with Saudi Arabia.

The spokesperson said the launching was carried out from civilian areas.

Houthis launched scores of ballistic missiles, many of which were intercepted in the Saudi airspace. Riyadh accuses its arch regional rival, Iran, of supplying the rockets to the group which had taken over Sanaa and other areas in 2014.

Saudi Arabia launched a military campaign in March 2015 to support internationally-recognized President Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi to retake territorial control.

Houthis recently made a proposal for cessation of hostilities with Saudi Arabia, and warned harsher attacks if the kingdom does not reciprocate through its coalition. The call came after the group claimed a drone attack on facilities belonging to the kingdom’s oil giant, Aramco, an incident that drew a wide-scale international alarm.
