Iraq reopens key border crossing with neighboring Syria
Anbar (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq opened on Monday a key border crossing with neighboring Syria, a move which is expected to strengthen trade ties between the two countries.
The crossing which lies between the Iraqi town of al-Qaim and Syria’s Albu Kamal was closed seven years ago during Syria’s civil war.
The crossing was reopened for travelers and trade.
The western town of Qaim was recaptured from Islamic State in November 2017. It was the group’s last bastion in Iraq to fall.
The Syrian town of Albu Kamal was also an Islamic State stronghold.
