 The departure of Iraqi poet Al-Araji

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Alaeldin Al Araji (1928-2021) – An Iraqi pioneer of his time, a poet, a thinker and a literary critic passed today in New York, USA. 

Al-Araji joined the United Nations in 1970 and was a a founding member of the Iraqi-American Cultural Association and the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate. He studied law, sociology, philosophy, and political science.

He is a man who dedicated his life to serving his country, practicing law, and modernizing his people’s way of thinking. Al-Araji was from a golden era, a period when Iraq was the mecca for scholars, intellectuals and free-thinkers.

Al-Araji participated in a large number of national and international conferences. His fascination with the Arab mind is evident in his book, “The Crisis of Civilizational Development in the Arab World between the Active Mind and the Passive Mind.”
