Police chief survives assassination attempt

KIRKUK / IraqiNews.com: A police director in Kirkuk has survived an attempt on his life when an explosive device hit his vehicle in the southwest of the city, a local security source said on Saturday. “Today, the director of al-Mahooz police station, Huweija district (65 km southwest of Kirkuk), Maj. Monthir Jassem, survived an assassination attempt when an explosive device targeted his car on the main road linking Kirkuk to the district,” Brig. Sarhad Qader told IraqiNews.com news agency. The blast caused damage to the car and injured one of his security personnel, the official pointed out. Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 250 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SS (P) 2
