Kurdish politician says 2003 war served Iraqis’ interests

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A Kurdish politician on Saturday said that all the justifications to unseat the former regime in Iraq have existed, noting “the 2003 war was in the interest of the Iraqi people”. “The war mainly aimed to liberate Iraq from this despotic dictatorial regime (of Saddam Hussein) for the good of the Iraqi people,” Khalid Shawani, a member of parliament from the Kurdish Alliance (KA) bloc, told IraqiNews.com news agency. Shawani’s statements came one day after an inquiry of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair on the involvement of his country in the 2003 Iraq war. “It was impossible to topple Saddam’s bloody regime and the Baath Party by internal opposition. Accordingly, the help offered by the United States and Britain to the Iraqi people to remove the regime should be considered as one of the gains of democracy and a victory over autocracy and dictatorship,” Shawani said.
