Baghdad

Parl. cancels extraordinary session

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Parliament has canceled its today’s session following a message from Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, al-Iraqiya TV said on Monday. The session has been called off in light of a message from Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in which he dismissed the need for it after the Cassation Board had started examining the appeals, the semi-official channel said today. The Parliament was scheduled to hold an extraordinary session today to discuss a decision by the Cassation Board concerning the examination of appeals submitted by candidates who had been banned from running in the upcoming election. A few days ago, the Cassation Board said it would postpone its examination of the appeals and allow candidates included in the Accountability and Justice Commission’s law to participate in the election. Parliamentary polls are scheduled to take place in Iraq on March 7, 2010. The commission had banned hundreds of candidates from running in the upcoming legislative election, citing their alleged affiliation to the dissolved Baath Party. SS (P) 2
