SIIC chief calls on Czech to urge EU countries to boost relations with Iraq

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, on Tuesday called on the Czech Republic to urge European Union countries to boost relations with Iraq, according to a statement released by the SIIC. “This came during al-Hakim’s meeting with the ambassador of the Czech Republic in Baghdad,” said the statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “The Shiite official called on the Czech Republic, which holds the rotating presidency of the EU, to urge the EU to play a bigger role in Iraq and to strengthen ties with the country in various domains,” the statement added. The diplomat spoke about the contributions of Czech companies in the economic and investment fields, mainly the oil sector and her country’s keenness to have the best possible political and economic relations with Iraq.
