UN welcomes signing of electoral behavior document

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The special representative of the United Nations secretary general for Iraq (SRSG), Ad Melkert, has welcomed the signing of the electoral behavior document by representatives of the major political blocs in the country. Melkert encourages all parties and candidates, who have not signed to join the initiative, to uphold the principles of honest competition, according to a UN statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. On Wednesday (Feb. 17), representatives of the Iraqi National Alliance, the State of Law Coalition, the Kurdistan Alliance, the Iraqi List and Iraq’s Unity Coalition signed a “document of honor” that calls for a transparent and fair election. Parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place on March 7, 2010. SS (P) 1
