Cauliflower successfully cultivated in Karbala’s desert

KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: The Karbala Agricultural Department on Thursday said it has cultivated successfully for the first time cauliflowers in the deserts of Karbala province, adding the experiment will be generalized on farmers and peasants to increase the crop productivity. “The crop is the result of a Dutch cauliflower seed called Rami. The experiment was conducted over one donum through the use of state-of-the-art scientific methods in addition to the use of potash fertilizers, which is known to be very suitable for desert conditions,” the department’s director, Baher Ghali, told IraqiNews.com news agency. One Iraqi donum equals 2,500 square meters. “The experiment will be generalized for farmers and peasants, be it those who use greenhouses or practice cultivation in desert lands,” Ghali added. Karbala lies 110 km southwest of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. Amr (P) 1
