German Chancellor, FM condemn Baghdad bombings
BAGHDAD /Iraqi News The German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle condemned the recent bombings that targeted diplomatic missions in Baghdad last Sunday, according to a statement of a German media center. “Merkel expressed condolences for the Iraqi people over the victims of the Sunday’s attacks, expressing hope over a peaceful and democratic progress in Iraq,” said the statement received by Iraqi News. For his part, the foreign minister asserted his country’s solidarity with the Iraqi people in their march towards achieving peace and democracy. On Sunday (April 4), a series of blasts hit areas close to the diplomatic missions in the capital Baghdad, including the German embassy, the Egyptian consulate and the Iranian embassy, leaving 30 persons killed and 168 others wounded, according to latest figures.
