Officers discover top 2 al-Qaeda leaders’ hideout to be honored
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Council of Ministers decided on Tuesday to honor officers and soldiers who contributed in discovering the hideout of the top two al-Qaeda leaders, Abu Ayyub al Masri, and Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, spokesman for the Iraqi government said. “The officers and soldiers will be promoted and will receive a financial award of 5 million Iraqi dinars,” Ali al-Dabbagh said in a statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. Last week, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said that the two leading al-Qaeda figures in the country were killed in a security operation in Anbar. “Abu Ayyub al-Masri, also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, Abu Omar al-Baghdadi and a number of al-Qaeda leaders in Iraq were killed during a security operation in al-Tharthar region in Anbar,” al-Maliki said at a press conference, attended by IraqiNews.com news agency.
