Ninewa governor meets his province’s operations commander

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: Ninewa‘s governor on Saturday met with his province’s operations commander. “The two sides discussed issues related to Ninewa, such as security in the province, detainees, and committing to legal measures,” a provincial media source told IraqiNews.com news agency. He explained that the governor stressed the importance of activating the role of the province’s security committee headed by him, and that it is essential to hold periodic meetings for the committee to coordinate security issues and avoid violations of law. More than 200 men and women have started a sit-in on Saturday before the provincial building’s authority in Ninewa province for the issue of abusing Iraqi detainees in secret prisons ran by the Iraqi government. “Those people have three demands to end their sit-in: release the detainees or give them a fair trial, hold security forces responsible for abusing them, and change security commanders deployed in Ninewa,” a local source told IraqiNews.com news agency.
