Iraq to build modern sewerage system in Erbil

Erbil (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) intends to establish modern sewerage system in Erbil, northern Iraq with Japanese assistance.

The project was suggested by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which also committed $288 million in the form of a long-term loan to the major undertaking. A plot of land has been set aside for the project, which will be carried out by two Japanese businesses under the supervision of Iraq’s KRG.

The project’s scope includes building a wastewater treatment facility with a maximum daily capacity of 840,000 cubic meters in the first phase, and then a wastewater and stormwater collecting network in the second phase.

The project is currently in the tendering stage.
