Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Iraq announced on Monday the launch of a security operation in western and southern Mosul in northern Iraq, according to a statement cited by the state news agency (INA).

The statement mentioned that security forces from the Iraqi army and Nineveh Operations Command began a large-scale search operation in areas located west and south of Mosul.

The statement explained that the operation aims to pursue remnants of ISIS terrorist groups in these areas.

The operation also aims to secure areas that terrorists may use to launch attacks against civilians or security forces, the statement added.

The Iraqi authorities announced in August it launched the fifth phase of Operation Solid Will to pursue remnants of ISIS terrorist groups in the buffer zone with Kurdistan region.

The Solid Will is a series of military operations launched by the Iraqi forces late last year with the aim of pursuing the remaining terrorists of ISIS.

In December 2017, Iraq announced it eliminated ISIS terrorists and imposed full control over all Iraqi territories, including the border with Syria, but some hiding ISIS terrorists are still active in some areas of the country.
