Security measures tightened in Talafar for possible attacks

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi forces in Talafar district, western Mosul city, were put on high alert on Friday and more security personnel deployed upon intelligence regarding suicide bombing attacks in the area, a local police source in Ninewa said. “Iraqi security agencies in Talafar, (60 km) northwest of Mosul, tightened security measures in addition to the deployment of more soldiers from the Iraqi army 3rd Division’s 10th Brigade as well as local policemen on the main street and inside residential areas,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The measures were adopted after intelligence were received about possible suicide operations armed groups were planning to carry out inside the district,” he said. The source called on the local residents to cooperate with the authorities concerned and report any strange persons or weird objects and to avoid being in crowds and large groups. Three successive blasts had targeted a local playground in Talafar on May 14, leaving eight people killed and 125 others wounded. Mosul, the capital city of the unrest-stricken province of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P) 2
