 Iraqi PM calls on Japanese companies to expand renewable energy projects

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, called on Japanese companies on Wednesday to expand their participation in the country’s gas and renewable energy projects, during his meeting with the Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Takagi Kei, and his accompanying delegation, according to a press statement issued by the Prime Minister’s press office.

The statement elaborated that the meeting addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and Iraq’s leading role in the region.

The two sides also discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the economic and cultural fields and to expand investments related to the energy sector, according to the statement.

Al-Sudani indicated the importance of activating the work of the joint economic committee between Japan and Iraq, as well as the technical agreements between both countries, the statement mentioned.

Kei praised the political and economic reforms Iraq achieved, and stressed Tokyo’s endeavor to enhance cooperation between the two countries, the statement added.

The Japanese official noted that his country went through conditions similar to what Iraq is going through, calling for benefiting from Japan’s experience in reconstruction and overcoming the effects of the war.
