Kuwaiti emir decides to free Iraqi prisoners – statement

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, gave instructions on Tuesday to free all Iraqi prisoners in response to a request from the visiting Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi, according to a statement of al-Hashemi’s office. “The emir ordered to free the rest of the Iraqi prisoners in the Kuwaiti jails in the coming few hours in response to a request from al-Hashemi,” said the statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. Al-Hashemi had arrived in Kuwait today within his multi-leg gulf tour to boost cooperation between Iraq and the gulf countries. The emir had released eight Iraqi prisoners from Kuwait in August 2008 as a result of another initiative from al-Hashemi too. SH (P) 2
