One Person killed, 8 wounded in Iranian bombing on Erbil
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – An Iranian missile attack targeted headquarters of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) in Koysanjak district in Koya town in Erbil governorate on Monday morning, and the authorities in Kurdistan region announced the death toll and the number of injuries.
The Minister of Health in Kurdistan Region, Saman Al-Barzanji, said that one person was killed and eight others were wounded in the Iranian missile attack on Koya town, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
Al-Barzanji added that the ministry is following the situation in order to send more ambulances to the sites that were attacked, expecting that the death toll would rise.
The mayor of Koya town, Tariq Haidari, stated that five Iranian missiles hit the headquarters of the PDKI in Erbil.
Haidari explained that three missiles hit sites in the town at 8:49 a.m., another missile hit the town five minutes later and last missile hit a site 20 minutes later.
Haidari indicated that the wounded were sent to hospitals in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah for surgeries.
Iran recently bombed sites it claimed Iranian-Kurdish separatist groups use it as headquarters in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq last October and handed him a strongly worded protest note against the repeated bombing of Kurdistan region.
The Iraqi ministry called for respecting Iraq’s sovereignty, abiding by Iran’s commitments stipulated in international covenants, and staying away from military actions in addressing security challenges.
