Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, stressed on Tuesday that it is not allowed to use the Iraqi territories to threaten Iran’s security, and referred to the agreement with Iranian President, Ibrahim Raisi, to activate the Joint Economic Committee, according to the state news agency (INA).

During a joint press conference with the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Al-Sudani stated that his visit to Tehran is in response to an official invitation to discuss the bilateral relations, noting that his visit will address the relations in various fields and situations in the region, INA mentioned.

Al-Sudani valued the Iranian support to Iraq in its fight against ISIS terrorists and indicated that visits and meetings are necessary to stimulate activities in all fields.

The Iraqi Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the Iranian stance that supported Iraq in terms of gas supplies, and explained that he discussed security cooperation with the Iranian side.

Al-Sudani elaborated that the Iraqi government is committed to implementing the constitution and will not allow its territories to be used against Iran.

“Our foreign relations are based on the principle of mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs,” Al-Sudani mentioned.

Raisi welcomed Al-Sudani and stressed that Iraq’s relationship with Iran is strong, rooted and historical.

Raisi clarified that Iraq is important for establishing peace and stability in the region, and added that stability is the responsibility of the governments of the countries in the region.

The Iranian President noted that the presence of foreign forces in the region increases security risks.

Raisi pointed out that Al-Sudani’s visit to Tehran is a turning point in bilateral relations and will help solve outstanding issues between the two countries.

The president also noted that the discussions that will take place during this visit will strengthen relations between the two countries.
