Turkish operation kills PKK intelligence official in northern Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Turkish authorities announced on Wednesday that intelligence official in Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) was killed in a Turkish intelligence operation in northern Iraq.
The Anadolu Agency reported that the leader in the PKK, Fatima Onur, was killed in an operation carried out by the Turkish intelligence in northern Iraq without mentioning further details.
Turkey launched Operation Claw Lock on April 18 against the strongholds of the PKK in Metina, Zap and Avashin-Basyan in northern Iraq.
On November 20, Turkey carried out an air operation against bases of the People’s Defense Units (YPG), a Kurdish militia in Syria and the primary component of the Syrian Democratic Forces, and the PKK, which Turkey accuses of terrorist activities, in northern Syria and Iraq.
During the past few days, Ankara intensified its attacks on targets it claims they belong to the PKK and its militia in Iraq and Syria.
Turkey carries out attacks in Iraq where PKK has military bases and training camps in Sinjar town in Nineveh governorate, and in mountainous areas in Kurdistan region bordering Turkey.
The PKK that Ankara and its western allies describe as a ‘terrorist group’ has been staging a rebellion against Turkey since 1984, and is based in remote mountainous areas in northern Iraq.
