 Commander of the NATO Mission Iraq visits the Iraqi Museum

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Laith Majeed Hussein, Director of the Antiquities and Heritage Authority, recently met with Lieutenant Giovanni Maria Iannucci, Commander-in-Chief of the NATO Mission Iraq.

At the Commission for Antiquities and Heritage’s headquarters, they discussed about how to best serve the antiquities and heritage industry, particularly in the areas of protecting antiquities, reducing artifact smuggling in coordination with the NATO mission, and helping to recover stolen objects that have been sold at global public auction houses.

Hussein emphasized the need of forging close links with the NATO mission in Iraq as well as providing Iraq with aid and support in conserving its antiquities and supplying the necessities for the operation of museums in Baghdad and the surrounding provinces.

After the meeting, the Lieutenant visited the Iraqi Museum and received a briefing on the exhibits there, which represent Mesopotamian civilization, prehistoric civilization, Sumerian civilization, Akkadian civilization, Babylonian civilization, urban civilization, and Islamic civilization.
