Iraqi army kills 13 terrorists within 48 hours in eastern Iraq
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi army announced on Friday that 13 terrorists were killed in seven air strikes in Diyala governorate in eastern Iraq during the past 48 hours, according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi Security Media Cell (ISMC).
The statement explained that security forces belonging to the Joint Operations Command, in cooperation with the Iraqi Directorate of General Military Intelligence (DGMI), detected an ISIS terrorist wearing an explosive belt and carrying explosive materials.
The Iraqi Air Force was provided with information about the terrorist’s location in Diyala governorate, and managed to kill him, the ISMC statement elaborated.
“After carrying out seven accurate air strikes by the Iraqi Air Force, the number of terrorists killed during the past 48 hours becomes 13 terrorists,” statement mentioned.
Last Tuesday, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command announced the killing of more than 200 militants belonging to ISIS group by the Iraqi security forces in 2022.
The spokesperson of the Iraqi army mentioned in a press statement on Tuesday that more than 200 terrorists, mostly leaders in ISIS, were killed in air strikes during 2022.
In 2017, Iraq announced the elimination of the ISIS group, which occupied about a third of the country after nearly three and a half years of confrontations, and regaining control of all the territories the terrorist group occupied.
Although the Iraqi security forces are imposing full control over the Iraqi lands since 2017, some hiding ISIS terrorists are still active in some areas of the country, but the Iraqi forces carry out air strikes and targeting operations against the remaining terrorists belonging to ISIS.
