Iraq signs MoU with the American Concrete Institute

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Building Research Department of the Iraqi Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities, and Public Works recently announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) on the sidelines of a workshop conducted in Amman, Jordan. The institutions will be able to assess and renovate current concrete facilities thanks to the MoU.

The workshop discussed the technical elements, guidelines, and rules that help solve the construction issues of pre-existing structures while reviewing Iraq’s experience in restoring damaged concrete buildings and the Ministry’s efforts in this area.

The MoU will also aid in increasing access to information for Iraq’s engineering community, professionals, and specialists.

For instructors and students at Iraqi civil engineering departments, the ACI 318 Code serves as the primary source of information for learning concrete design. Additionally, the bulk of structural designs for concrete structures follow the Code, which is employed by designers. The agreement will thereby advance academic and industrial knowledge about concrete.

Its consensus-based standards, technical tools, and educational, training, and certification programs are developed, published, and adopted by the American Concrete Institute, a major global authority in the field. ACI was established in 1904 and is based in Farmington Hills, Michigan in the United States. It also has offices in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Chicago as well as resource centers in Southern California. With 30,000 members in over 120 countries, ACI has over 94 branches, 244 student chapters (including Iraq), and a global membership.
