 FIFA President lands in Iraq to attend opening Gulf Cup match

Basra (IraqiNews.com) – The President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, has landed in Basra, Iraq to attend the opening match of Iraq versus Oman taking place today at the Basra International Stadium. Adnan Dirjal, President of the Iraq Football Association welcomed and accompanied the FIFA president to southern Iraq.

Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani and Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi also arrived in Basra to attend the opening of the Arabian Gulf tournament.

Additionally, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, landed in Basra to attend the opening match.

For the second time ever and the first time since 1979, Iraq is hosting the Arab Gulf Cup tournament.
