Urgent – 37 killed, 56 injured in terrorist attack on Baghdad Christian Church

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The final casualty figure for the victims of a terrorist attack on Sayidat al-Najat Christian Church in central Baghdad’s Karrada district on Sunday, has reached 37 killed and 56 wounded, according to security source on Monday. “The final result for the attack against Sayidat al-Najat Church in Karrada district in central Baghdad has reached 37 persons killed, among them 7 members of the Iraqi security forces and 5 of the attackers and the hostiages, whilst the number of the wounded persons had reched 56, including 15 Army and polilce men, whilst the other casualties have been civilians and hostages,” the security source told IraqiNews.com News Agency. He said the Church had suffered from severe materal damage due to the attack, due to the armed clash in which the security forces used tear-gas bombs, whilst the attackers used hand-grenades in the confrontation. A security source had told IraqiNews.com on Sunday that a Baghdad Operations Command and an anti-terrorism force had detained 9 armed men, who broke through the church, adding that the force had liberated 50 hostages taken captive inside the church, most of them women and children.
