Police breaks through Iraq’s Al-Baghdadiya Satellite Channel, stops its broadcast, but arrests none of its staff

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: An Iraqi police force had broken through Al-Baghdadiya Satellite Channel on Monday night, ceased its broadcasting, confiscated its electronic appliances, but did not arrest any of its cadres, according to the Spokesman for the Baghdad Operations Command on Tuesday. “The police had broken through Al-Baghdadiya Channel on Monday night, stopped its broadcasting completely, confiscated its computers and forced its cadres out of the building, without arresting any of them,” Qassem Atta told IraqiNews.com News Agency, adding that the “operation took place in response to a judicial order, with presence of a judge.” Atta said the operation took place according to a decision by the state-owned “Communications & Media Commission,” stressing that “Al-Baghdadiya Channels bureaus were closed all over Iraq.” As regards to the detention of Al-Baghdadiya’s two staff, Atta said “the decision was taken according to a judicial order,” charging that “they were under investigation, for their contact with the terrorists, who executed the attack on Sayidat al-Najat (Lady of Salvation) Christian Church on Sunday night.” Noteworthy is that some of the armed men, who broke through the Church in central Baghdad on Sunday, had called Al-Baghdadiya Channel, demanding the release of their fellow prisoners in Iraq and Egypt.
