Armed attacks on Basra airport hamper pilgrims’ return

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: The attacks by gunmen on the Basra airport hinder the pilgrims’ return, according to a statement from U.S. army in southern Iraq. “Unknown gunmen fired rickets on Basra airport on Monday (Nov. 22), causing a delay in flights, mainly those carrying pilgrims returning from Mecca to Basra,” said the statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “Officials had to close the airport after the attack,” it added. “The attack caused no casualties among civilians,” the statement said.
