U.S. Forces complain that attacks on Basra Airport undermine investment

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: The U.S. Forces in southern Iraq‘s Basra Province have complained on Tuesday that attacks on Basra International Airport “represent a threat that undermines investment and economic development in the Province.” The U.S. Forces said in a statement, copy of which dropped in IraqiNews.com news agency, that the past three weeks “had witnessed three rocket attacks, that were launched for the second time by armed men, against Basra International Airport, thing that interrupted  airport’s air traffic.” “The said attacks had serious passive impact on timetables of airlines flights to and from the airport, whilst they represented a real threat on the lives of passengers, using Basra International Airport, being a strategic airport that has a major role in the economic development in the whole of southern Iraq,” the statement said. On the other hand, the Qaim-maqam (Mayor) of Basra‘s Faw township told IraqiNews.com news agency that the national security and intelligence forces have discoverers mortar shells, hand-grenades, Katusha rockets and artillery shells, all hidden in a farm in the township, adding that “the weaponry was probably being prepare to launch a terrorist operation in Faw.” Basra, the center of the province carrying the same name, is 590 km to the south of Baghdad.
