Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, during a joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein, on Wednesday, expressed his country’s aspiration to strengthen the relations with Egypt and Saudi Arabia, thanking Iraq for its role in facilitating and enhancing the dialogue between Tehran and Riyadh.

Abdollahian explained that Iran welcomes diplomacy and dialogue in resolving the issue related to its nuclear program, and reaching a strong and sustainable solution, but U.S. officials make contradictory statements.

The Iranian Foreign Minister elaborated that Tehran appreciates the efforts of the Iraqi officials to promote regional dialogue, supports Iraq’s security and sovereignty, and also supports Iraq in its fight against terrorism.

“Baghdad has taken important measures to prevent the use of the Iraqi territories by terrorists, and we are continuing our efforts to develop the bilateral ties,” Abdollahian said.

Earlier in February, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, visited Baghdad where he reviewed the resumption of the Saudi-Iranian negotiations under the auspices of the Iraqi government.

Also in February, the Iranian Foreign Minister revealed that he had a meeting with his Saudi counterpart, on the sidelines of the ‘Baghdad II’ summit in Jordan.

Abdollahian mentioned that Farhan assured him of Riyadh’s readiness to continue dialogue with Iran, noting that he also met with the foreign ministers of Oman, Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait.

The last round of dialogue between Iran and Saudi Arabia took place in April 2022, but the dialogue stopped without reaching an agreement, despite the statements of both countries’ leaders of their desire to establish a bilateral relationship based on mutual respect.
