Cornerstone laid for housing compound in Basra

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: The foundation stone for a project to set up a 1,000-unit housing project in Basra for the Political Prisoners Association was laid on Thursday, according to the PPA chief. “The project, to observe global specifications, will have units 2.200 meters each. Al-Faw Company will embark on the project soon,” Jassem Muhammad Jaafar said during a ceremony on the occasion. “The implementation of this project in Basra mirrors the central government’s care for the political prisoners and their sacrifices during the former regime’s time,” he added. The foundation stone laying ceremony for the housing compound, near the Sports City in western Basra, was attended by members of parliament and local officials in the province. The oil-rich port city of Basra, Iraq’s only outlet to waterways, lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AmR (P) 2
