MISSAN / IraqiNews.com: A Russian firm said it wishes to build two big dams in eastern al-Amara city, according to a local official on Thursday. “Russia’s Wintercroft Capital said it was ready to implement a project to build the dams of Duwayrij and Tayyeb, (50 km) eastern Amara. The company has proposed the sum of $450 million for Duwayrij and $250 million for Tayyeb,” Hassan Lazim, the chairman of the Missan Provincial Council’s agriculture & water resources committee, told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The project is very important for the province as it deals with the water scarcity problem, particularly during th summer season, by making good use of rainwater and other waters reaching the province from border rivers in Iran,” he pointed out.
