Child killed, policeman wounded in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / IraqiNews.com: A child was killed a and a policeman wounded in incidents in different areas of the province of Kirkuk on Saturday, local security sources said. “A 10-year-old child, who is a shepherd and local resident of al-Sous village, tampered with a bomb he found. The bomb went off, killing him instantly,” Brig. Sarhad Qader, the head of the Kirkuk Districts Police Department (KDPD), told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The body was removed to the Kirkuk-based Azadi Hospital morgue,” he added. Meanwhile, a source from the Joint Coordination Center (JCC) in Kirkuk, told IraqiNews.com that unidentified gunmen opened fire on Saturday (Oct. 30) on a policeman, wounding him. Al-Orouba police station patrols rushed him to a hospital for treatment, he added. On the other hand, the JCC source said that a patrol from the al-Huweija police station seized a rocket ready for firing near the Technical Institute in the district that lies 65 km southwest of Kirkuk. “The rocket was removed and defused by U.S. forces without incident,” he added. The oil-rich Kirkuk, a city of mixed Arab, Kurdish and Turkmen population, lies 280 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AmR (S) 2
