Basra Gateway Terminal celebrates 4,000,000 TEU milestone

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT), located in the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr, has marked a significant milestone in its operations. The terminal declared that it has handled its 4,000,000th twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU), which was accomplished while handling Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp.’s YM MUTUALITY.

With the completion of this milestone, BGT has solidified its position as a leading container terminal in Iraq, which it has maintained for the past nine years since it began operating at Umm Qasr.

BGT is a partnership between Iraqi Ports Authority (IPA) and ICTSI (International Container Terminal Services Inc.), the largest terminal operator in the Philippines.

BGT’s handling of the 4,000,000th TEU is the latest in a long line of accomplishments. The facility was named the best container terminal in the Middle East at the Seatrade Maritime Awards in 2019.
