Iraqi President calls on Tehran to respect Iraq’s water share

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, during a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raisi, in Tehran, stressed the need to respect Iraq’s water share, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
Rashid clarified that Iraq has strong relations with Iran, stressing that his visit to Iran is part of these relations.
The Iraqi president called for resolving the standing issues between the two sides and taking into account Iraq’s water share.
Rashid’s statement comes in light of the declined water flow coming from Turkey and Iran, amid warnings that water scarcity is threatening food security in Iraq.
The Iraqi president, accompanied by a high-level delegation, arrived on Saturday morning in the Iranian capital on an official visit.
The accompanying delegation included Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Minister of Water Resources Aoun Diab, Minister of Electricity Ziyad Ali Fadel, and National Security Adviser Qassim Al-Araji.
The Iraqi presidency announced that Rashid headed a high-level delegation to Tehran on an official visit, indicating that the visit comes in response to an official invitation from Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
