Talabani to Paris to attend Socialist International meeting

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi President Jalal Talabani left Baghdad for Paris to attend the annual meeting of the Socialist International at his capacity as deputy chairman of the organization, a presidential statement said on Sunday. President Talabani was elected as deputy chairman of the Socialist International during its meeting in Athens in July 2008. The Socialist International is an international political organization, comprising different world socialist and labor parties. The Socialist International comprises full members, advisors and assistants and among the parties considered members of the first group are: the Algerian National Liberation Front, Egypt’s ruling National Democratic Party, the French Socialist Party, Tunisia’s Democratic Constitutional Grouping, Turkey’s Republican People’s Party and the Israeli Labor Party. Among the consultative parties in the organization are Palestine’s Fatah Organization, the Democratic Grouping for Labor & Freedoms in Tunisia, while Yemen’s Socialist Party is among the observing parties.
