BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallim welcomed the return of the Iraqi ambassador to resume his diplomatic activity in Damascus and the return of the Syrian ambassador to Baghdad, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) on Saturday. “Iraq‘s Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari and his Syrian counterpart Muallim have recently met in New York, where they discussed ways to further bilateral relations between the two countries,” SANA reported. It said Zebari had informed Muallim of the Iraqi government’s decision to return its ambassador to Damascus to resume his diplomatic activities in the foreseeable future. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry had announced on Friday (Sept. 24) that Zebari had “informed the Syrian Foreign Minister of Iraq‘s decision to return its ambassador to Damascus,” pointing out that the Syrian Minister “welcomed the decision and decided to return the Syrian ambassador to Baghdad soon”.
