Al-Iraqiya Alliance Member charges “National Alliance” with delaying Parliament meeting

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A leading member in al-Iraqiya Alliance, Mohammed Allawi, has said on Tuesday that the delay in the Iraqi Parliament sessions was due to non-agreement about the three leading chairmanships, the President, Prime Minister and Parliament Speaker. He placed responsibility for the delay on the “National Alliance.” “The National Alliance bears the responsibility for delaying the work of the parliament, due to its policies that complicated the political arena and the issue of reaching an understanding towards the said three chairmanships,” Allawi told IraqiNews.com. The leader in the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC) and the candidate for the new prime minister‘s post, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, in an interview with Al-Hurra Iraq TV Channel charged Al-Iraqiya Alliance and the State of Law Alliance on Monday with delaying the parliament‘s activity, due to their insistence on holding the new prime minister‘s post. “Al-Iraqiya is not responsible for delaying the parliament‘s session,” Mohammed Allawi said. He added that the “National Alliance intentionally hampered the political process and delayed the parliament‘s session, through its rejection to recognize the constitutional right for al-Iraqiya.” SKH (S)/SR 1
