 European Bank supports private sector, renewable energy in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, stressed the importance of partnership with the European Bank to support the plans of the Iraqi government to diversify the sources of the national economy, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The statement clarified that Hussein met on Tuesday with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud-Basso, and other representatives from the bank to discuss ways to strengthen the partnership between Iraq and the bank, promote the Iraqi private sector, and digitize the banking system.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of the partnership with the EBRD to support the Iraqi government’s plan to diversify the sources of the national economy.

Hussein also noted that the government prioritizes investments in the energy sector and the digital transformation of the financial infrastructure.

The EBRD’s president affirmed the bank’s willingness to work in Iraq and contribute to supporting the private sector and renewable energy.
