Iraqis killed in road accidents six fold that of violence
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Road accidents are still representing a great problem, being the main cause of death and injuries in most global states, whilst official figures in Iraq had shown that road accidents that have killed Iraqis have exceeded victims of terrorist and suicide acts by sixfold. “Road accidents in Iraq are killing Iraqis in a percentage that reaches six fold more than that caused by terrorist operations,” Iraqi Health Ministry’s Dirctor-General of Operations & Health Services, Chassib Latif, told IraqiNews.com news agency on Sunday, calling on the State to “pass serious laws to implement a limit for this phenomena.” Latif pointed out that “the percentage of accidents, registered by the emergency sections in Iraqi hospitals in 2010, has reached 14%, caused by car accidents. 4.5% by motorcycle accidents, 0.5% for bicycle accidents, whilst pedestrian accidents had shown 1.25%,” pointing out that those figures had been close to the figures of the past few years, without any considerable change. “Those accidents have caused over 3,000 death cases in Iraq, exceeding victims of terrorist operations by six fold, which was a great figure that must be taken into consideration,” Latif said.
