Iraq’s corruption watchdog says received 6270 reports in 9 months

KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: The Commission of Integrity revealed on Saturday that it has received 6270 reports of corruption cases during the first nine months of 2010 while the number of wanted persons hit 6031, including 250 in the rank of general director and four in the rank of minister. “Corruption is a reality that tries to thrive and is always involved with change moves. We have to admit there is corruption so we can be able to spot it and curb its effects,” Justice Mishriq Adnan al-Ghazali, the director of anti-corruption investigations in Karbala, said during a speech held by the Commission of Integrity on behalf of its chef in a celebration marking the International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD). “Arrest warrants were issued against 455 persons on charges of embezzlement, 132 on bribery, 2008 on counterfeit, 207 on premeditated squandering of public funds and 382 on squandering of public funds with dereliction,” Ghazali added. He noted that the Commission of Integration managed to restore sums up to 31.956.503 billion Iraqi dinars. AmR (P) 33
