Plant for booby-trapping cars discovered in northern Wassit

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: A plant for booby-trapping cars with explosive charges has been discovered in southern Iraq’s Wassit Province on Monday, the Commander of the Province’s Rapid Deployment Force (RDP), said. “The Interior Ministry’s Rapid Deployment Force uncovered a plant for booby-trapping cars in an agricultural area in Sewaira town, 135 km to the north of Kut, the capital of Wassit Province,” Col. Aziz Al-Imara told IraqiNews.com News Agency. He said the plant contained powerful explosive materials and remote-explosion equipments and cables, along with anti-tank rockets as well as explosive charges. He pointed out that the operation “was carried out by using devices to uncover explosives, achieved through intelligence information.” Kut, the capital of Wassit Province, had been target for two booby-trapped car blasts last August that targeted a popular market and a police center, killing and wounding more than 160 persons. Kut city is 180 km to the south of Baghdad. SKH/SR 1
