Merchant disappears on Baghdad-Wassit Highway

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: An Iraqi civilian, carrying US$700,000, has disappeared while driving his car on the main highway connecting south-central Iraq’s Wassit Province and southern Baghdad, according to a police source in Wassit on Tuesday. “The said civilian’s family had informed the Wassit police that mobile contacts with their son had ceased between north Wassit‘s Sewaira checkpoint and south Baghdad‘s Salman Park town,” the police source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The missing individual works as merchant, who deals with purchasing goods for traders, according to their demands from Iraqi Kurdistan Region,” the source clarified. “Police have opened an investigation to check whether the man had been abducted by armed men,” adding that the police had also published the man and his car’s description throughout inspection points in the area. Kut, the center of Wassit Province, is 180 km to the south of Baghdad. SKH/SR 24
