General Electric to produce 13,000 megawatts from Iraq’s associated gas

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The director of General Electric (GE) in Iraq, Rasheed Al-Janabi, stated on Wednesday that the company pays great attention to enhancing electricity production in Iraq and reducing the gap between supply and demand, particularly during peak seasons, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
Al-Janabi explained that the recent visit of the CEO of General Electric (GE) Gas Power, Eric Gray, to Baghdad and his meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, are part of the continuous coordination with the Iraqi government and other concerned parties, including the Ministry of Electricity.
The Iraqi official clarified that the meeting between Al-Sudani and Gray addressed the results of continuous cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity, especially in terms of the required maintenance and modernization of gas turbines, which were installed during the past five years in different Iraqi governorates and produce about 7,000 megawatts.
The meeting also reviewed ways to deal with the significant increase in demand for electricity and other challenges such as power generation and electric power transmission, Al-Janabi told INA.
GE’s director in Iraq also revealed that GE Gas Power’s CEO reviewed the company’s international and regional experiences in recovering the associated gas to be used to generate electricity, explaining that GE plans to produce 13,000 megawatts of electric power using associated gas.
