Increase in River Euphrates’ water Levels insufficient to compensate their shortage, official says

ANBAR / IraqiNews.com: The registration of an increase in the water levels of Iraq ’s Euphrates River , flowing from its Tigris River is insufficient to compensate the continuing shortage in the levels of rivers and lakes in west Iraq ’s Anbar Province , Director of the Dams Department in Anbar’s city of Falluja stated on Saturday.   “The committees, following up the level of water in Euphrates River had registered an increase in its water levels, due to the flowing of water from Tigris River, that had shared in an increase of 43.50 cubic meters , an increase that is not enough to cover the shortage in the levels of waters rivers and lakes in Anbar Province,” Engineer Nouri Targy told IraqiNews.com news agency.   “The levels of water in Euphrates River, al-Tharthar and Habbaniya Lakes, along with Haditha Dam, are witnessing a large decrease in their water levels since several years, for many reasons, among them the   natural climate circumstances, caused by decrease of rains and the obstacles caused by non-flowing of Iraq’s water share, coming from Syria and Turkey,” he added.   Falluja is 60 km to the west of Ramadi, whilst Ramadi, the center of Anbar Province , is 110 km to the west of Baghdad .   SKH (IT)
