 UAE’s Masdar to build solar power plants in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, met on Monday with a delegation from Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company Masdar, which will build solar power plants in the governorates of Maysan, Dhi Qar, Anbar and Kirkuk.

According to a statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, Fadel revealed that the government plans to diversify energy sources and reduce dependence on gas and fossil fuels to address environmental pollution and global warming.

The statement mentioned that the Electricity Minister highlighted the importance of partnerships with the UAE, indicating that the Iraqi government is serious about carrying out projects with Masdar Company, which has big businesses in the region and around the world.

Fadel reviewed the possibility of locating sites in Iraq to carry out renewable energy projects, which became important for the Iraqi economy.

Masdar develops utility-scale renewable energy projects around the world. It advances innovation in clean technologies and adopts a smart first-mover approach to green hydrogen.

Masdar also delivers knowledge and industry platforms to stimulate further growth in the wider renewable energy and clean-tech industries.
