Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, called on friendly nations on Friday to help his government fight corruption and recover Iraq’s stolen money.

“We now have a government that enjoys a widespread political coalition that covers all aspects of society,” Al-Sudani said during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly.

The Iraqi Prime Minister stated that his government has adopted a program with crucial priorities that reflect issues that must be implemented without delay and that benefit the people of Iraq, according to a press statement released by the United Nations.

Al-Sudani explained that these priorities include employment opportunities, poverty eradication, fighting corruption, and enacting economic reforms.

The Iraqi Prime Minister stated that Iraq has become a safe environment for investors and a pivotal state in the global oil market, adding that Iraq is also working on a regional corridor that will make transport and trade easier.

Al-Sudani emphasized that his government is focused on eradicating corruption, explaining that it is important to pursue those who spread corruption.

“We must return the money they have stolen because we believe there is a symbiotic relationship between corruption and terrorism,” he illustrated.

“Iraq is committed to international law and respects all United Nations resolutions. That is why Baghdad rejects any interference in its internal affairs,” Al-Sudani said.

Iraq’s Prime Minister stressed that Iraq will not be a launching point of aggression against any other state.”

Addressing the mounting climate challenges and water crisis, Al-Sudani indicated that Iraq is suffering from a drought, cautioning that the cradle of civilization must not be allowed to die of thirst.
