URGENT: Joint Iraqi-US force detains militia man behind attack on US base in Babel Province

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A Joint Iraqi-US force has carried out an offensive in Babel Province on Monday, arresting an Iranian-backed militia element, charged with having been behind attacks on the US base in Iskandariya township and a mosque in the same city, according to a statement by the US base on Tuesday.   “The American Armored Knights Brigade in Babel Province has carried out a joint operation with the Special Iraqi Forces on Monday, arresting an Iranian-backed militia member, Fadhel Ghabiya,” The statement, copy of which dropped in IraqiNews.com news agency reported.   “Ghabiya is charged with having implemented attacks on the American base in Babel Province , by shooting rockets on the base and the destruction of a mosque in Iskandariya township in Babel , along with planting Bombs on roadsides and killing Iraqi civilians,” the statement stressed.   It pointed out that “the Iraqi forces had taken the initiative of a successful operation, arresting Ghabyia, with a minor support by the American Army.”   “The Commander of the American Forces in Babel , Major Show had appreciated the potential of the Iraqi forces and their ability to employ efficient staff in their intelligence to keep Iraq safe,” the statement concluded.   SKH (IT)   386
