Sadrist leader arrested in Amara

MISSAN / IraqiNews.com: A leader from the Sadrist movement was arrested on Saturday in downtown Amara city, a movement official said. “Today, joint forces from the U.S. and Iraqi armies arrested Sheikh Nassir al-Saadi, a prominent leader in the Sadrist movement, in al-Orouba area (downtown Amara),” the source told IraqiNews.com. Since June 19, 2008, Iraqi security forces have been conducting a wide-scale security operation, codenamed Bashaer al-Salam (Promises of Peace) in Missan province with the aim of tracking down armed groups and outlaws. Missan is a Shiite province. Its capital city is al-Amara. Sitting on the Tigris River, Amara lies 390 km south of Baghdad.
