BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com – Iraq ’s Council of Ministers has ratified the proposal by the special committee, formed to study the pollution of River Tigris, the Council’s Official Spokesman, Ali al-Dabbagh announced on Wednesday. “The Council of Ministers has decided to ratify the proposals by the special committee, formed to study the current pollution in River Tigris and to find means and mechanism to fight the pollution,” Dabbagh said in a statement, copy of which dropped in IraqiNews.com news agency. Dabbagh said that “the proposals comprise the activation of Article 14 of the Law on Protection and Improvement of Environment, No. 27 of 2009, preventing to allow any house, industrial, service or agricultural liquid remnants to pour into internal water resources, unless after carrying out necessary treatment for those liquid materials.” “Legal penalties shall be taken against all parties that commit such acts, whilst it is necessary to accelerate the approval of the Environmental Police Force and to establish special environmental courts to account those who carry such violations against the environment,” Dabbagh concluded.
